Chapter Sixteen:

The Throne Room

The procession of king and queen, followed by Lord Rudagh and the guards, stopped before the towering double doors leading to the throne room. Two servants came with black velvet pillows, the crowns from her nightmares perched atop them.

The prime, or should she say king’s crown was made of sleek onyx, with five gold spikes circling the crown. The spike that would rise above his forehead was embedded with the missing chip from her amulet and the same blood magic covering it.

Her crown was much the same, but more delicately made, it’s spikes were crafted from diamonds. This crown had no chip embedded in it, unnecessary as it was with the amulet hanging like a shackle around her throat.

As Morrigan bowed her head so Eoan could nestle the crown on the top of her piled hair, she struggled to keep her lust for his pain concealed. She let her lips curve with an expression of perverse delight and reached up to adjust Eoan’s crown on the top of his snow-white curls.

It would be so easy to rip out his throat. So… so… easy. Morrigan could wear his blood on her body like a gown… she could dance in his misery… it would be so simple.

When Morrigan’s eyes trailed over the depiction of Cernunnos, she involuntarily touched her link to Isaac, he was stronger and healthier in the prison of the gardens. She could feel the faint throb of his magic down the connection of their souls. It warmed her enough that she could breathe through the choking evil festering inside of her.

A prickle of awareness shivered down her neck and she felt Eoan’s eyes sear into her. His twisted power flooded her mind with the darkness he infected her with, she turned her eyes up to his, letting the longing she felt for his death to fill her gaze. Let him think it was longing for him, let him think anything he wished …until she was ready to show him what she truly longed for.

She shuddered with impatience, and again Eoan misread her, his smile softening as he crooned, “Do not worry, they will adore you, my queen.”

Dipping her chin in acknowledgment, she let her face and eyes grow cold, wrapped herself in the magic born of dragon flame. Her gaze slowly bled to amber ice, the silver sparks no longer shining like stars as they melted away.

At Eoan’s nod the doors glided open silently, a hush fell over the chatter of nobles and courtiers. The fusion
